Mica Linz- East of the Moon and West of the Sun/Melting Polar Ice

Once upon a time there was a very poor peasant couple with lots of children. One night, the father heard tapping on the window and went outside to see what it was. It was a the polar bear king, who promised to make the family fabulously wealthy if the youngest daughter would marry him. She eventually agreed and went to live in his ice palace, where all their energy needs came from the sun and the wind. At night, when all the lights had been turned off, he turned into a man and lay down next to her. They lived happily together for a while, but eventually the girl grew unbearably curious about the polar bear king’s human form. The next night when he was asleep she lit an oil lamp and saw her husband’s true form, an amazingly handsome man. But he awoke and cried:
“I am under a curse, if you had been content with what you have and not used a harmful energy source to see me I would have been free. Now I must leave you and our palace shall melt away.”
The castle collapsed and a chunk of ice broke away with the polar bear king on it. It drifted away so fast there was no chance of him swimming back to shore.
